What is the Long Weekend Journal?

June 1, 2025 by Mason Leave a Comment

Welcome to the Long Weekend Journal — my home to document the places I’ve been, meals I’ve shared, and things I’ve done. The goal of this blog isn’t to make any money, but rather serve as a permanent archive of exploring places, plates, and pastimes in Kentucky and beyond.

Most of the content I share here on and on the Long Weekend Journal social media pages (Facebook; Instagram; TikTok) will likely be focused on Kentucky, my home state. During the day, and nights, my job is to promote Shelby County’s places to stay, restaurants, and things to do. During the course of my work, I have had the privilege of exploring the rest of Kentucky and beyond. I want to shine a light on the little guys: the country stores in towns barely on the map, the off-the-beaten-path attractions, and the one-of-a-kind, can’t-miss restaurants. There are so many stories that haven’t been told yet, and I want to document those hidden gems.

What makes this different from other blogs?

In short, not much, honestly. There are approximately 7 billion travel blogs in the world. What makes this one different? Just my trademark wit — kidding — and unique writing style — also joking.

Who am I?

My name is Mason Warren. I am the Vice President of ShelbyKY Tourism and a lifelong resident of the Bluegrass State. I have a spoiled four-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever named Parker, who I was told would be a mini Goldendoodle. I am on the board of directors at the Shelby County Community Theatre and the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce.

If you want to tag along on my travels, feel free to sign up to get updates in your email. No pressure and no commitments on my end. I promise one dog photo per month, though. That’s guaranteed.
